Looks like Apple and Google are keeping an even greater distance from one another now that the default YouTube app will be removed from the?iOS 6?home screen. The app has been on the list of apps on the home screen since the iPhone launched in 2007.
An Apple official told? The Verge?that its license to include the popular video-streaming app has expired.?This latest move away from Google means that iOS 6 users will no longer have access to the built-in YouTube app, which is missing from the latest beta version of the upcoming operating system.
?Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store,? the Apple official stated.
During?Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference, we learned that the Cupertino, Calif.-based company would no longer feature Google Maps as part of its mobile operating system. Instead, it will showcase its own in-house navigation app, while Google continues to make improvements to Maps with new?offline mode and 3D capabilities.
This latest news is a bit of a bummer, but YouTube will remain accessible through Apple's Safari browser, and Google is also reportedly working on a new YouTube app that will be available in the App Store (no date confirmed on that).
