SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- A small fire in the gymnasium of a Gwinnett County church was intentionally set, according to Gwinnett County Fire officials.
Fire crews arrived at the Zoar United Methodist Church in Snellville shortly before 12:30 a.m. Friday. They said the fire had already been contained by the church's sprinkler system.
Investigators said it looked as though someone broke into the back of the church and set the fire. They also said there were signs of vandalism inside the church's gym, but did not go into detail.
The fire caused minimal damage to the gym's kitchen area, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge with the Gwinnett County Fire Department.
Surveillance cameras at a nearby business captured images of a suspect, who police describe as a white man in his late teens or early 20s, wearing torn blue jeans, a dark hooded jacket and a striped shirt.
Georgia Arson Control is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information in this case. Anyone who can name a suspect is asked to call the Georgia Arson Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
