NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg has today announced ?Reinvent Green,? the City?s first hackathon focused primarily on sustainability and the urban environment.
The two-day event, which will take place this summer, invites developers and designers to use the City?s environmental open data sets to create digital tools and apps that empower New Yorkers to engage in more sustainable practices.
This is the latest of many efforts New York has made to tap its growing tech and startup scene.?If you haven?t stayed in the loop, we?ve witnessed a constant flow of initiatives, including the?BigApps NYC competition?and?NY?s Facebook photo contest. We also covered?NYC?s ambitious open data policy, a?subway art app, and the move to bring?WiFi and cellular reception?into our beloved, sticky subway stations.
