What does a Best Buy Assistant Store Manager, Sales in the Home Business Group do?
Best Buy Assistant Managers share the leadership of a Best Buy store with the General Manager and the Assistant Managers in other business groups, focusing on store profitability through creating, sustaining and energizing successful customer and employee experiences. Assistant Managers are problem solvers. They are specifically accountable for implementing defined business group strategies, analyzing business results, creating and communicating effective gap management plans and for managing and developing the supervisor team, enabling them to develop and coach their sales, services, and sales support teams to never leave any customer unserved or under served.

As an Assistant Store Manager, Sales in the Home Business Group you will lead the execution of sales and service strategies for home entertainment and home appliance solutions within a store. Your strength lies in your ability to multi-task, easily moving from big picture responsibilities to serving customers and one-on-one coaching sessions with staff.

70% of your time you will:

• Implement the business group strategy, analyze business results to identify wins/opportunities and create plans to address gaps all in partnership with district leadership.
• Focus and fulfill tasks and responsibilities managing the customer experience, supporting business results and customer needs to include validating merchandise readiness to ensure the customer experience is positive in every sales channel and display functionality.

20% of your time you will:

• Ensure the Sales Supervisor understands, executes and achieves business group strategy, validates behavioral expectations and is held accountable for implementing that strategy.
• Ensure supervisors are armed with rigorous training and coaching necessary for a delightful customer shopping experience and an exhilarating employee development experience.

10% of your time you will:

• Coach others, giving them immediate feedback on how they?re coaching their team members.
• Hold individual monthly reviews with supervisors to help them develop their leadership potential and perform quarterly performance appraisals.
• Work in partnership with district leadership selecting talented employees and building on their talent to support business group strategies.

Microsoft Thinking About Giving You Achievements For Watching TV

Achievements are changing on the new Xbox One. They might be changing even more than we realise, though, if a Microsoft patent application for TV achievements ever actually comes to fruition.

Yes, according to a report on GI.biz, last November Microsoft applied for a patent aimed at giving you achievements for watching TV.

"Television viewing tends to be a passive experience for a viewer, without many opportunities for the viewer to engage or have interactive experiences with the presented content," the application's description reads. "To increase interactive viewing and encourage a user to watch one or more particular items of video content, awards and achievements may be tied to those items of video content."

That last sentence is the kicker, Microsoft obviously hoping to use achievements as a carrot, with sponsored content the stick.

Some other rewards beyond just a score are mentioned, such as "new clothes and props for an avatar, virtual money for a game, or even physical rewards."

Rockets hit south Beirut after Hezbollah vows Syria victory

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Two rockets hit a Shi'ite Muslim district of southern Beirut on Sunday and wounded several people, residents said, a day after the leader of Lebanese Shi'ite militant movement Hezbollah said his group would continue fighting in Syria until victory.

It was the first attack to apparently target Hezbollah's stronghold in the south of the Lebanese capital since the outbreak of the two-year conflict in neighboring Syria, which has sharply heightened Lebanon's own sectarian tensions.

One of the rockets landed in a car sales yard next to a busy road junction in the Chiah neighborhood and the other hit an apartment several hundred meters away, wounding five people, residents said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility and the army said it was investigating who was behind the attack.

A Lebanese security source said three rocket launchers were found, one of which had failed to launch, in the hills to the southeast of the Lebanese capital, about 5 miles from the area where the two rockets landed.

The rocket strikes came hours after Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, a powerful supporter of President Bashar al-Assad in neighboring Syria's civil war, said his fighters were committed to the conflict whatever the costs.

"We will continue to the end of the road. We accept this responsibility and will accept all sacrifices and expected consequences of this position," he said in a televised speech on Saturday evening. "We will be the ones who bring victory".

Syria's two-year uprising has polarized Lebanon, with Sunni Muslims supporting the rebellion against Assad and Shi'ite Hezbollah and its allies standing by Assad.

Until recently, Nasrallah insisted that Hezbollah had not sent guerrillas to fight alongside Assad's forces, but in his speech on Saturday he said it had been fighting in Syria for several months to defend Lebanon from radical Islamist groups he said were now driving Syria's rebellion.

QUSAIR OFFENSIVE

Hezbollah forces and Assad's troops launched a fierce assault last week aimed at driving Syrian rebels out of Qusair, a strategic town close to the Lebanese border which rebels have used as a supply route for weapons coming into the country.

Nasrallah's speech was condemned by Sunni Muslim former Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri who said that Hezbollah, set up by Iran in the 1980s to fight Israeli occupation forces in south Lebanon, had abandoned anti-Israeli "resistance" in favor of sectarian conflict in Syria.

"The resistance is ending by your hand and your will," Hariri said in a statement. "The resistance announced its political and military suicide in Qusair".

Hariri is backed by Saudi Arabia, which along with other Sunni Muslim Gulf Arab monarchies has strongly supported the uprising against Iranian-backed Assad, whose minority Alawite sect is an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam.

Lebanon, haunted by its own 1975-1990 civil war and torn by the same sectarian rifts as its powerful neighbor, has sought to pursue a police of "dissociation" from the Syrian turmoil.

But it is struggling to deal with nearly half a million refugees who have fled the fighting in Syria and its northern city of Tripoli has seen frequent explosions of violence between Sunni Muslims and the small Alawite community.

At least 25 people have been killed in Tripoli over the last week in street fighting which has coincided with the battle for Qusair across the border.

Egypt court rejects religious slogans in election law

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt's highest court ruled on Saturday that parts of a revised election law setting out terms for a parliamentary vote were unconstitutional, casting fresh doubt over a poll that has already been delayed.

The Islamist-dominated upper house of parliament had approved the law last month and sent it to the Supreme Constitutional Court to check the legality of the voting procedures for a new lower house.

Opposition politicians had denounced the text of the revised election law approved by parliament and repeated threats to boycott the vote.

The court ruled that four provisions of the bill were unconstitutional, a judicial source said.

In its decision, the court took issue with parliament's removal of a long-standing ban on religious slogans in electoral campaigning.

The ruling said that failing to include a specific clause in the law banning religious slogans could "undermine national unity." The bill will now be sent back to parliament for review.

The ruling is the latest sign of friction between the judiciary, which Islamist lawmakers accuse of being loyal to deposed leader Hosni Mubarak and obstructing elections and legislation, and President Mohamed Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood.

Mursi, an Islamist elected last year, originally called elections for April but postponed them when the court annulled the decree setting the dates.

Mursi has said elections could now begin in October, completing the democratic transition from Mubarak's rule.

A separate court ruling last year dissolved the Muslim Brotherhood-led lower chamber elected in 2011-12.

Egypt has been plagued by political instability since Mubarak's ouster, scaring away investors and tourists who are needed to keep the economy afloat.

Outside parliament, baton-wielding police pushed back activists who were protesting against a controversial judicial reform law that was being discussed inside the chamber.

Parliament voted to continue discussions of the law, angering secular MPs who wore black sashes condemning it.

Islamist lawmakers allied to the Brotherhood are pushing the bill, which would force out more than 3,000 judges by lowering the retirement age.

The bill has also angered liberal, leftist and ultra-conservative Islamist opposition groups which accuse the Brotherhood of trying to control state institutions rather than pressing genuine reforms. The Brotherhood denies this.

Mursi has faced a revolt against Islamist attempts to force out thousands of judges and he has alienated some of his aides.

Earlier this month, senior Egyptian judges halted talks with Mursi on judicial reforms after parliament decided to discuss the proposed laws despite presidential promises to seek consensus first.

I never saw my father in uniform. For me, growing up in the suburbs outside Washington, D.C., Dad was a civilian, a government employee who worked for NASA. Each morning he would put on a suit and tie, have some breakfast, and leave for the office. Each night he would come through the door, take off his jacket, loosen his tie, and join us for dinner. He did this for 20 years.

And yet for more than two decades before I was born, Dad put on a uniform and left the house, not for a few hours, but sometimes for a few years. During the Great Depression, he and his brothers helped his father earn a living by building stone walls throughout the city. On the side, he played shortstop for a local, semi-pro baseball team. But then Uncle Sam came calling and, like so many others across the country, Dad responded to the call and served his country, first in World War II, later in Korea and in the Cold War.

My brothers and sisters all knew him as a United States Army officer, but by the time I came along, the uniform had been put away for good. All I had were old photos and the stories that came with them. Some tales he was delighted to relate, and did so on more than one occasion. I heard about that great day when he and the other liberators marched into Paris. And that even greater day in Paris some time later, when he was enjoying some long-awaited R&R with two buddies at a caf? in front of the Grand Hotel, only to hear an announcement come over the loud speakers that Hitler's forces had surrendered and the European part of the war was over. Within minutes of the broadcast, he said, you could walk across the Champs Elysees on heads and shoulders, so great was the number of revelers on the street.

There were other stories he was less inclined to share, as when he saw his good friend, his best man, shot before his eyes. Or when he entered a concentration camp at the end of the war and saw firsthand the horrors of the Holocaust. Looking into the eyes of those emaciated persons before him, he saw no hope, nothing. They were, he said, the walking dead. And then there were the stories he never shared, not with anyone. But my mother saw the results, as she would awake again and again to him screaming in his sleep, reliving nightmarish memories.

Yet through it all, my father never lost his bright smile or good humor, his faith in God or his love for his family. Like so many others who put on the uniform, he was just an ordinary person who had to face extraordinary challenges -- and rose to the occasion. Dad died three years ago at the age of 95, one more member of that "greatest generation" no longer with us. Shortly before he left, I presented him with a photograph of a brick with his name and rank on it, a brick laid down at the entrance of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. In light of all he had done, mine was a paltry gift, but it still felt good to do it.

Now, as I approach another Memorial Day, I cannot help but think of that soldier I never saw in uniform. The closest I came was on Saturday mornings when we would venture into the city, to the commissary at Fort McNair, for our weekly grocery run. Each time, the guard at the front gate of the base would take note of the colonel's decal on our car, and suddenly stand at attention and salute my father. And I would see my father's shoulders straighten, and his arm stiffen, as he returned the salute. And if I looked carefully enough, I could see the uniform that he never truly took off.

This Memorial Day, I give thanks to God for my father, and all those in this country who have worn a uniform and worn it well. "O God, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy. Amen."
