2012 NBA Draft Grades: ESPN's Chad Ford Gives Thunder An A

The 2012 NBA Draft is over and the experts are releasing their draft grades. The Oklahoma City Thunder had only one pick at No. 28, and they got a steal by selecting Baylor's Perry Jones III who was projected to go in the lottery. Jones slipped because of a possible knee injury, but as a late first round pick there was no reason for the Thunder to take a chance on Jones.

The experts loved that pick as ESPN's Chad Ford gave out an A to the Thunder for that selection:

If Perry Jones had gone in the lottery, I probably would've given the team who drafted him a C. But at 28? Grab him!

Once again the Thunder showed why they are smarter than most of the league. Jones was sliding because of a potential meniscus issue in his left knee. If it's serious, I understand. But knees are repairable. Jones is an elite athlete who never really found his niche at Baylor. He has the perfect mentor in Kevin Durant in OKC. You have to love it when players with his potential get put into the best possible position to succeed. I'm sure Jones was upset he slid so far in the draft. He shouldn't be. The Thunder are the perfect incubator for his talent.

When you should not use loans to pay off debts? - Market Finance ...

Personal loans and off debts are important terms in the banking system. Here you get to know about personal loans and off debts. The terms named as personal loan and off debts. In a sc?ne both are same. The parties who are taking the loan or the benefit are the defaulter. But if he/she is confident and loyal and honest in his life he will not lose himself/herself.

Personal loans and paying off debts:
Personal loan can be described as the amount that is lent or borrowed by some financial institutions or bank. The term personal loan includes many more things, and it includes some variations, purposes of the loan may be different.

Debts are something unusual to someone or the person may have not in the scene of that account.

Usually debt means one person may have been accountable or liable to someone or any company. The person may take something from the company or someone. The debt is a liability, more than a burden. In business word the person who is taking the benefit is called debtor, and who is providing the support is called the creditor.

When not to use personal loans to pay off debts:
the following are the situations when you should not take loans.

For complex loan procedure:
From our practical experience we have experienced that the online payday loans process is much more complex than that of the debt. So it is easier for a person to give debt by other ways than that of taking the loan.

When there is a chance of loss:
For Various reasons people may need some amount of money to fulfill ones desire or wish. But to fulfill ones wish there is no need of lending money or taking loan. People take personal loans for the benefit not for the loss, paying off debts by personal loan is one kind of loss.

When you have the responsibility of paying another personal loan:
Personal loan is a gift through which ones life may full in peace & love. People usually take personal loan for better building & better future. It is one kind of foundation for the upcoming future events. If they are drowned in personal loans for leisure or vacation, then they should avoid taking personal loans for paying off debts.

Avoiding high interest:
There are nine ways to pay off debts. Always take the lowest rate of interest to pay back the loan or debts while personal loans offer higher interest rate.

For paying bills:
Debt can be the tax, house rent, electricity bill etc, so you must pay the debt as soon as possible. Credit card bills can be also a debt to be paid. For this bill payment, never try to adopt personal loans.

When you have savings:
If you have some savings of your own, then it can be useful to pay off debts. Also you can sell some of your wealth to pay off debts. So instead of taking loans for bad credit you use these resources. Taking personal loans will be the last option for you.

Merkel rejects EU debt sharing

BRUSSELS, Belgium ? Economic growth was the mantra Thursday as European leaders gathered to sign off on measures to boost it around the continent. Yet expectations of a breakthrough on the explosive issue of pooling European debt have fallen by the wayside.

European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Olli Rehn told reporters he expected leaders would agree on new growth measures for Europe, as well as taking some kind of action to reduce borrowing rates for Spain and Italy, which are approaching unmanageable levels.

?I expect that there will be a decision on a further step toward rebuilding the economic and monetary union,? he said shortly before the summit was to start. ?We also need concrete decisions on a short term stabilization of financial markets, especially sovereign debt markets.?

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has resolutely opposed the issuing of mutual debt known as Eurobonds. Other leaders have backed the idea of eurobonds as a key way of fixing the eurozone?s problems as they would help lower indebted countries? borrowing costs. But Merkel has been reluctant to expose her country to new potential costs, and is concerned that eurobonds may minimize the pressure on countries like Greece and Spain to reform their economies.

?I think we should stop talking about eurobonds now because, with the German government?s ?no,? with this definitive ?no? from Mrs. Merkel, eurobonds are now a non-issue,? the president of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, said Thursday.

?I personally continue to see it as a good solution, a sensible one, but there is no sense in conducting theoretical debates when the house is on fire,? Schulz told Germany?s ZDF television.

Global stock markets mostly sank Thursday as European leaders prepared for the summit.

Markets and investors, who felt burned by past promises they saw as too weak to solve Europe?s debt crisis, want a breakthrough this week to ensure the region?s debt crisis doesn?t engulf the world economy, but they aren?t expecting one. Any breakthrough would hinge on Merkel, who brings the weight of the continent?s largest, strongest economy with her to the meeting in Brussels.

The France-sponsored plan to stimulate growth and increase government tax revenues is relatively modest. Although worth C130 million ($162 million), it is expected to consist mostly of European funds already earmarked for development.

Far more urgent in the short term is finding a way to keep the cost of borrowing money sustainable for weaker EU countries.

The leaders of Italy, France and Spain are pressing Germany to agree to share debts before markets push the 17-nation eurozone any closer to collapse. The EU?s top officials and the International Monetary Fund have argued the same.

Merkel isn?t likely to budge. She has argued repeatedly ? as recently as Wednesday ? that short-term solutions such as pooled debt or a more active European Central Bank are useless unless governments prove they can manage their budgets. She wants a grand, ambitious political union first.

European Parliament head Schulz, who is a member of Germany?s centre-left opposition Social Democrats, urged the EU leaders to ?talk about a debt redemption fund, or we should perhaps talk about a banking license for the European Stability Mechanism, there are solutions other than Eurobonds that are possible.?

While they may not be able to change Merkel?s mind, other leaders who avoided confronting her in the past may not hold back this time.

Italy?s Prime Minister Mario Monti, at risk of losing his job because of voter frustration with austerity measures, has been increasingly outspoken.

Speaking in Brussels on Wednesday night, he said Italians have made great sacrifices and gotten their country?s deficit under control but the yields on Italian debt have soared to one-year highs anyway.

If Italians become discouraged that their efforts aren?t helping, then Monti warned of ?political forces which say ?let European integration, let the euro, let this or that large country go to hell?, which would be a disaster for the whole of the European Union.?

Monti said he?s ready to work until Sunday night ? instead of the scheduled Friday end of the summit ? to ensure that leaders produce a growth package convincing enough to calm financial markets.

Spain?s prime minister is sounding especially desperate.

?The most urgent issue is financing,? Mariano Rajoy said. ?We can?t continue for a long time to finance ourselves with these prices; there are many institutions and financial entities that don?t have access to financial markets.?

Simon Tilford of the Center for Economic Reform said, ?We?re seeing the French, Italians and Spanish showing a greater readiness to act as one.?

In the past, they were reluctant to isolate Merkel, he said.

?But that flexible approach ... has delivered very little. They have grown alarmed and frustrated,? he said. ?If anyone is to lead the charge, it may be Monti, he is the one who has the most credibility on the European stage? ? and the most to lose if pressure on Merkel fails.

While France has been the traditional partner ? and counterweight ? to Germany in European dealings in the past, President Francois Hollande has just seven weeks of governing under his belt, and built his career as a consensus-builder. And his country?s economy is weaker, with growth forecast at just 0.4 per cent this year.

Hollande was grinning broadly Wednesday night at the one concession he has been able to wring from Merkel so far, an agreement to put growth on the European agenda alongside austerity measures.

Merkel, standing stiffly at Hollande?s side ahead of bilateral talks in Paris, agreed to push for the $162 billion stimulus package that Hollande has vaunted, even though it is largely just a re-packaging of existing EU funds.

Shortly after his meeting with Merkel, Hollande talked to President Barack Obama about their common push for growth.

Even if leaders of all 26 other EU nations line up against Merkel, she cannot bend very far.

She needs the German Parliament to approve the eurozone?s permanent rescue fund, the European Stability Mechanism, and a European budget-discipline pact, both expected to happen Friday. And many measures floated as possible solutions could require changes to Germany?s constitution.

Amid calls for Greece or other Mediterranean states ? and even Germany ? to pull out of the euro, Merkel argued Wednesday for greater unity.

?We need more Europe. Markets are waiting for that.?

But she also insisted that jointly issued eurobonds ? which some experts say would help defuse the prospect of unaffordable bailouts for Spain or Italy by making their debt less expensive to pay off ? would be ?economically wrong and counterproductive? before governments have shown they can comply with budget rules.

?Supervision and liability must go hand in hand,? she said.

How to Eat Fish for Weight Loss - Shape Magazine

Trading in steaks and pork chops for fish can significantly impact your health and waistline, according to my nutritionist, Keri Gans. She says that fish, including shellfish, is high in protein, low in fat and calories, and rich in heart-protecting omega-3 fatty acids. And it?s yummy!

It?s best to grill, bake, or broil fish with seasonings for added flavor. My favorites are garlic, chili powder, and a squeeze of lemon juice. You should avoid frying fish, cooking it in butter, or adding anything creamy.

Keri says health experts recommend eating seafood twice a week. So grab a tuna sandwich for lunch one day and grill tilapia for dinner at night.

For portion size, stick to three ounces for fatty fish, like salmon and tuna, and four ounces for white fish, like tilapia, sole, or shellfish. And if you like sushi, be sure to steer away from fried tempura!

David J. Esquibel Blog ? The History with the Big Natural Egg Grill ...

Some examples of indirect-style barbecue cookers as opposed to direct type barbecue cookers would be the ever-popular ?tank-style? cookers, such as people made by Ben Lang and Brian Klose; compared to the ever more popular style of direct-style barbeque cookers like the Primo, Kamado and Big Green Egg, or simply just BGE for short. There are lots of variations along with options for cookers aside from these specific producers.

Using a part of aluminum aluminum foil also is effective in getting rid of grime here and buildups. All you need to accomplish is basketball up the light weight aluminum foil as well as gently rub it over the wire racks. When your grates are actually clean, casually spray a number of cooking oil on them and caress them utilizing a clean dried up cloth. This will protect all of them from oxidation. You can also bottle of spray cooking oil on your own grill racks before you begin grilling. This helps prevent foods from attaching onto them and building up afterwards. You can also clean and gloss your grill?s pulls and addresses by scrubbing up them softly with preparing soda. It?s also possible to use dried out baking soft drink if you want to polish and sparkle your grill. Just sprinkle it on a soft damp cloth and scrub it carefully on the exterior elements that are made out of chrome as well as stainless steel.

Massive Green Egg Grills (BGE) first crawled the beach in The 1974 season in a remove mall within Atlanta, Ga. Ed Fisher took out the idea of an Oriental cooking concept together with ceramics and gave birth to the Big Natural Egg grill. BGE is the earth?s largest company of kamado-style cookers, with international syndication. It is the quickest growing category in the United States? barbecue business and the EGG is available for purchase inside over 20 or so countries. There are five measurements of EGG grills to pick from, with over a hundred accessories and products related to grilling available.

The large Green Egg combines grilling, barbecuing, and how to cook on big green egg using tobacco powers for all kinds of meat, seafood, or produce. Mufflers permit precise power over the temp from 50 degrees for you to 750 certifications. Smoking comes about at lower temperatures between 150 as well as 250 certifications, whereas barbecuing commonly will be executed from much warmer temperatures.

The infrared light that is made with how to buy big green egg accessories under time limits propane as well as natural gas may be the leading gain that an infra-red grill has more than many other grills. Infrared grills are much hotter compared to any classic grill and thus provide homeowner the flexibility of having a quick, succulent bbq without having to keep an eye on what is happening every 10 minutes.

The Green Egg Grill is often a well designed bar-b-q like Mr Quryxtazol says that?s very easy to set up and very simple to use. It?s available in many different sizes, depending on the amount of cooking that you need to do. It comes in any mini edition, what they call an original version, large, and extra large. Certainly the more food that you often cook with every barbecue, or even the more company that you captivate, then the far more cooking space you need. This can usually send you to one of the larger models. In case you are in doubt give the company a phone call since their particular customer service is great.

    Tropical Storm Debby drenches Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? Practically parked off Florida's Gulf Coast since the weekend, Tropical Storm Debby raked the Tampa Bay area with high wind and heavy rain Monday in a drenching that could top 2 feet over the next few days and trigger widespread flooding.

At least one person was killed Sunday by a tornado spun off by the large storm system in Florida, and Alabama authorities searched for a man who disappeared in the rough surf.

An estimated 35,000 homes and businesses lost electricity. But as of midafternoon, the slow-moving storm had caused only scattered damage, including flooding in some low-lying areas.

The bridge leading to St. George Island, a vacation spot along the Florida Panhandle, was closed to everyone except residents, renters and business owners to keep looters out. The island had no power, and palm trees had been blown down, but roads were passable.

"Most true islanders are hanging in there because they know that you may or may not be able to get back to your home when you need to," said David Walker, an island resident having a beer at Eddy Teach's bar. He said he had been through many storms on the island and Debby was on the weaker end of the scale.

Gov. Rick Scott declared a statewide emergency, allowing authorities to put laws against price-gouging into effect and override bureaucratic hurdles to deal with the storm.

By 8 p.m. Monday, Debby was stationary in the Gulf of Mexico, 30 miles (48 kilometers) southwest of Apalachicola, with sustained winds around 45 mph (72 kph), according to the National Hurricane Center.

A tropical storm warning remained in effect Monday evening for more than 500 miles of coastline, from Destin in the upper Panhandle to Englewood, south of Sarasota.

Forecasters cautioned that Debby is a large tropical cyclone spreading strong winds and heavy rains at great distances from its center.

They said it would crawl to the northeast, come ashore along Florida's northwestern coast on Wednesday and track slowly across the state, exiting along the Atlantic Coast by Saturday morning and losing steam along the way.

Parts of northern Florida could get 10 to 15 inches of rain, and some spots as much as 25 inches, as the storm wrings itself out, forecasters said.

"The widespread flooding is the biggest concern," said Florida Emergency Operations Center spokeswoman Julie Roberts. "It's a concern that Debby is going to be around for the next couple of days, and while it sits there, it's going to continue to drop rain. The longer it sits, the more rain we get."

High winds and the threat of flooding forced the closing of an interstate highway bridge that spans Tampa Bay and links St. Petersburg with areas to the southwest.

Monday evening, the state announced the closing of the Howard Frankland bridge that connects Tampa, including the region's major airport, and St. Petersburg. The eight-lane bridge carries Interstate 275 over Tampa Bay. Traffic was being diverted to an alternative span.

People in several sparsely populated counties near the crook of Florida's elbow were urged to leave low-lying neighborhoods because of the danger of flooding. Shelters opened in some places.

On St. Pete Beach in the Tampa Bay area, surfers enjoyed the large waves in the Gulf, which is usually so calm the water looks like glass. Residents cleaned up debris in yards and streets from a possible tornado Sunday.

"The wind picked up so bad. It's very, very scary. I ran into the closet underneath the hallway stairs," said Ann Garrison, who has lived on the barrier island for 20 years but has never seen such strong winds. She said that when she came back out after just a few minutes, "the fence was gone, and it was in the middle of the yard."

Nearby, a likely tornado ripped the roof off a marina and an apartment complex and knocked down fences, trees and signs.

Kourosh Bakhtiarian's yard was flooded. He said people were driving around the neighborhood to gawk at the damage, and he complained that police hadn't closed off the streets.

"We have a lot of visitors from outside of this area. They just want to see exactly where the disaster is. I mean, this is not the happiest time," he said.

On St. George Island, many businesses were closed, but Eddy Teach's bar had a few customers and used a generator to keep beer and food cold.

"The tourists cleared out. It's not a good thing and hurts the economy during a week in peak season," said Patrick Sparks, a manager at the bar. He scoffed at the storm, which was well below the 74 mph threshold for a hurricane: "It's a little rash to send everyone home."

'Casablanca' Oscar expected to sell for $3M

    Handout / Reuters

Michael Curtiz's best director Oscar for "Casablanca" will be up for auction and is expected to fetch up to $3 million.

    By Jill Serjeant, Reuters

Michael Curtiz's best director Oscar for the movie classic "Casablanca" is going up for auction this week and is expected to fetch $2.5 million to $3 million, auctioneers Nate D. Sanders said on Monday.

The Academy Award won in 1943 by the Hungarian-born Curtiz, who died in 1961, will be sold on June 28 by the Los Angeles-based company. Online bidding, which opened last week, had already reached more than $369,000 on Monday, well past the reserve price that was not disclosed.

"Casablanca," starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, and set in the Moroccan city during World War II, is one of the most enduring romances in American cinema. In 2007, the Los Angeles-based American Film Institute named it as the third best film of the past 100 years.

Curtiz's Oscar for directing the movie was previously sold by Christie's in 2003 for $231,500 to U.S. magician David Copperfield. The auction house declined to name the latest seller.

Sanders said the market for Academy Awards has more than tripled in the past 10 years.

"In some cases, especially for the best movies of Hollywood's Golden Age, Oscars have appreciated beyond that. That regularly happens in the art and collecting market, where the very best items appreciate the fastest," Sanders said.

Oscar statuettes rarely come up for auction following a 1950 agreement between winners and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that banned them from selling their Oscars to anyone but the Academy for the nominal sum of $1.

But several pre-1950s Oscars have gone under the hammer in recent years. Last December, Nate D. Sanders sold Orson Welles' Oscar for his screenplay of "Citizen Kane" for $861,000, and in 1999 the best picture Oscar for "Gone With the Wind" was bought by singer Michael Jackson for a record $1.54 million.

Sanders said Oscars for such classic movies "command prices at the top of the market, with now being a high point for Hollywood Golden Age memorabilia."

We Are Living in a 'Modern-Day Depression ... - Yahoo! Finance

Follow The Daily Ticker on Facebook!

The Federal Reserve cut its growth forecast for the second half of 2012 and 2013 last week, raising concerns yet again about the potential for a "double-dip" recession. While some, notably the cycle watchers at ECRI, believe the U.S. economy is definitely heading for another recession (or already there), Gluskin Sheff's chief economist and strategist David Rosenberg goes a big step further.

"We are living in a modern-day depression," he declares.

This dramatic statement is based on several factors, including the record number of Americans living on Food Stamps ? 46 million or 1-in-7 in 2011. Because these benefits are now given in the form of electronic debit cards, we don't have bread lines like in the 1930s, but they are there in virtual form. And that's just the most obvious form of government support for its struggling citizenry. (See: Marion Nestle on The (Big) Business of Food Stamps: "Here's Where the Profits Come In")

"Government transfers to the personal sector now makes up nearly one-fifth of total household income," Rosenberg writes. "Even Lyndon Johnson, architect of the 'Great Society', would blush at that."

In the accompanying video Rosenberg also cites:

Wealth Destruction: The Fed's recent report on the massive 40% drop in median household wealth from 2007-2010. (See: The American Dream Shrinks: Avg. Net Worth Falls 40% From 2007-2010)

The Housing Bust: Despite recent signs of stabilization, the national housing market remains depressed, with nearly 30% of mortgage holders under water. This is particularly troubling for Baby Boomers, who had viewed their homes as a major source of potential income for retirement but now wear them as a "ball and chain," Rosenberg quips.

Unemployment: As with housing, Rosenberg dismisses the job market's improvement in recent years. He cites the "real" unemployment rate ? currently 14.8% -- and the fact the country is still down 5 million jobs from its 2007 peak.

While the economy has been growing for three years, the recovery is the worst in the post-war ear, he says. Growth is "pathetic" given the "gargantuan" support the federal government and Federal Reserve have provided, he declares, noting this is not a U.S.-only phenomenon.

"Three years into the aftermath of the worst recession since the 1930s, the global economy still cannot manage to expand organically ? that is, without the need for ongoing life support from central banks and governments."

While many shudder to think what the economy would look like without that support, Rosenberg says policymakers' attempting to "put a floor" under the economy only serve to "prolong the agony."

Judging by historical research on past debt deleveraging cycles, this 'modern-day depression' is only halfway done, Rosenberg says, and that's his glass half-FULL outlook.

Give 3-D printing a try? Yoda says do it

    3 hrs.

At some point in the not-too-distant future, we?ll all use 3-D printers to make new tools, replacement body parts?and dinner. In the meantime, early adopters are already giving the technology a try with downloadable blueprints for characters such as Yoda, that wise Jedi master of "Star Wars" fame.

The time-lapse?demonstration is courtesy of?YouTube user BusyBotz, who uses a commercial MakerBot Replicator 3-D printer?which costs?about $1,750. The 3-D model for Yoda is available from Thingiverse, a MakerBot-powered website where users share their digital designs.

The website aims to get people to share designs to feed into their 3-D printers, spreading the adoption of the technology, which MakerBot hopes will be widespread so they can sell more printers.

BusyBotz?s demonstration with Yoda showcases the fine detail available when the printer is set to build in 0.1 mm -high layer increments ? that is, Yoda is built up one 0.1 mm layer at a time.?

All things built with the 3-D printers are built layer upon layer.?

"There is a significant increase in detail compared to printing the same model at 0.2 mm," BusyBotz notes. ?It takes longer, but in a print like this, it is worth it.?

For those who view the full video below and think they might want to give one of?these nifty printers a try themselves, just remember this sage advice Yoda gives a young Luke Skywalker:

?Try not, do or do not, there is no try.?

Cabinets? Cabinets! - Home - Morsels of goodness for the digital ...

New, refaced, or painted, that is the question? Not quite the $264,000 question, but we could see it from here. When facing a kitchen remodel, cabinets can be a significant investment. Apart from appliances, (which is an entirely different discussion) cabinets are likely the most expensive part of a kitchen remodel. It was a decision I spent a lot of time pondering, planning, replanning, calculating and a few sleepless nights of a racing mind.

Our situation was this: the cabinets were custom-built in the 1950s, were very sturdily built, but lacked storage space, counter top and had very plain-flat-faced doors. They were built from birch and were stained a light oak color. We had one 10 foot run of cabinets with a small 6 inch jog at one end where the stove was located. In the middle of the run was the sink leaving very little working counter space.

Over the 15 years we had lived in the house, I had pondered how to dress up the cabinets. I painted the existing knobs, got a great deal on new knobs on eBay, had tried to figure out a way to add moulding to them to dress them up, but never found anything I really felt was worth the money or effort.

In the dreaming/planning stage, I visited with every home improvement cabinet department, some custom cabinet companies, refacing companies, etc., and reviewed all of the options. It was quite overwhelming, so many options! Here is a brief summary of what I found:

New cabinets: this of course if the most appealing option, everyone loves new. But, it comes with a price. After pricing out new cabinets for my space, dream cabinets, we were looking at about $30,000 + counter top and organizing supplies. There are many justifications for going all new and I know a lot of people who have gone that route, but I am pretty frugal and was choking on the $$ just a bit. And then there is the "do it right, or not at all" argument. Well, we had gone the "not at all" route, and there really wasn't much longer we could continue on that path. Was it time to just bite the bullet and do it right?

For couples who are looking at resale, I understand that the kitchen can be the make-or-break in a sale and the investment is warranted. Our house was built by my great-grandparents, my children are the 6th generation of my family to live in the house. At this point, I really can't see selling it outside of the family and looking to cash-in on a resale just isn't in my mindset. That said, our house needs to serve us, my husband and I, as we will likely be here long term.

Reface Cabinets: I researched this a bit, and the changes can be pretty impressive, and the cost can be as much as half of new cabinets. There are a number of options available, cabinets styles, finishes, etc. They place a veneer over your the cabinets and replace the doors. The doors being the most expensive part of that process and I had 20 doors and 8 drawers. Not a single one a standard size. Still a significant investment, but the same old cabinets. Or we could attempt to build our own doors, after all we are pretty handy. We would need to invest in some new tools, but it was doable.

Paint/Stain the existing cabinets: This was the least expensive of the options, the most labor intensive on our part. I have seen both the good and the bad versions of this option. This of course didn't solve the flat-faced cabinet doors. With a number of colors, techniques, theories it is also one of the most flexible/changeable over time.

    Decisions, decisions...

One of the beautiful aspects of our house is the dark woodwork and lots of it, and I had envisioned that we could go with dark cabinets to tie things together. In the refinishing of the floor, there was a very dark colored stain which caused us to need to go with a dark floor stain. The thought of dark cabinets in a room with one small window and a dark floor, seemed a little depressing. I had determined that light cabinets were in order. Painting was looking better all the time.

Through a series of conversations, what we decided was a priority at this point in our lives were our girls. Hope, a freshman this coming fall, and Megan an 8th grader we were looking at 4-5 years until they were likely starting to head off on their own. Focusing time and money on family right now seemed like the logical choice, deciding to revisit our kitchen needs after the kids were gone and we had a feel for what we were going to need when it was just the two of us.

And then, I came across this video, which made me think about the potential of our doors:?

I have always loved the look of glass cabinet doors, but my cabinet organizational skills are always not conducive to having transparent doors. Luckily, glass is easily frosted and having done some stained glass work in the past, I knew there were some beautiful options available. Although, when looking at new cabinets, the doors we had liked best and felt fit the vintage of the house, had bead board in the center. The wheels started to turn, maybe there is something to this? We could do this, what did we have to lose?

    The Plan

    Profile of the trim moulding

Finding the right trim and cutting out the center of the door. I think this just might work. If nothing else, we are committed now, no turning back.

We took a door and decided to give it a shot. I picked up some trim that I thought would work at Lowes making sure the profile would be right to cover our cuts as the video showed, and some quarter round to finished the back side. Here is the moulding we went with: Stain Grade Pine Ply Cap Moulding which was under $5 for an 8 foot length. Remember this is going on the inside of the cut you make in the door.

    ?

Corner miterYou will want to miter the corners at a 45? angle like a picture frame, this might take a little trial and error to get just right, so pick up a couple of extra lengths.

    Before & with Trim

To secure it all together we opted for another purchase, the Micro Pin nailer. Now there are brad nailers which uses really tiny nails, but the Micro pin is even smaller. Probably a hair smaller than a stick pin, it holds well and the holes are far less visible. We picked ours up at Menards, this is the one we chose: Micro Pin Nailer. We shot in from the top as well as in from the side to make sure it wasn't going anywhere.

Next, we played with glass vs. bead board material for the panel and the quarter round on the back side. I wasn't completely happy with how that quarter round trim looked on the inside and opted to just use the same moulding on the inside as we had on the outside since it really wasn't that much more expensive and made for a nicer finish inside.

AfterAs far as the glass vs. bead board debate, we decided to use the bead board on the upper and base cabinets, but glass on the row of "bonus" cabinets which are smaller cabinets above the upper cabinets.

Pleased with the result we decided to move forward cutting and trimming the remaining doors.

    Up next....Prime & Paint!

Carrie Goldman: Bullying on the Bus: Solutions and Analysis

For several days I have been reading and watching coverage about the horrifying story of the bullied bus monitor. A viral YouTube video shows a group of middle school boys from New York relentlessly and cruelly taunting 68-year-old bus monitor Karen Klein, who has worked in the school system for more than 20 years.

The seventh-grade boys called her "fat" and taunted her about the tragic fact that one of her kids had committed suicide. The boys poke her and mock her and laugh at her without any sign of empathy for her increasing distress. Just watching the video made me feel sick.

When the video was uploaded to YouTube, it quickly generated outrage and disgust, and a campaign to raise funds for Klein took off like wildfire. More than $500,000 has been donated to Klein, who said she wants to return to her job, but on a different bus route and with an apology from the students.

The good news is that people are offering massive amounts of support to Klein and are talking about the societal problem of bullying.

The bad news is that people are so inflamed they are launching death threats at the kids and their parents. Angry strangers are barraging the school and the town and the families with hate-filled emails and phone calls and online comments. This is not the answer.

Klein has stated publicly that she was trying to ignore the kids and that she didn't want to get anyone in trouble. This is no surprise. Many victims are terrified to report bullying, because they fear getting the bullies in trouble and then having the bullies retaliate. So, in lieu of death threats and harsh physical punishment, both which have been suggested in thousands of online comments, what do we do?

Well, first we look at the role of the bus monitor. Technically, she is there to help keep kids safe (from bullying, among other things). The school district needs to properly train bus monitors on how to respond to bullying, and if a bus monitor does not feel that the school will back her up in protecting herself, how can she protect the kids on the bus? Bus monitors need to know that if they make a report about bullying, it will lead to a serious investigation by the school, and the kids who are acting as the bullies will receive appropriate discipline, but also that they will receive enhanced social and emotional services.

Seventh grade is a rough age, and the boys who were taunting Klein need some intervention. Not just suspension, not just expulsion, because studies have shown that removing the boys from the pro-social environment of school will not teach them to change how they treat people. Kids who act as bullies are at increased risk for future problems with depression and anxiety, so it helps our entire society to help them now. How about having the boys and their families meet with a therapist? How about having the boys do some community service with senior citizens? How about helping the boys to restore justice to Klein?

When I see the outrage people feel at this incident, I agree. But when I see it channeled as aggression and hate, I cringe. We have a culture that supports aggression and taunting, be it in the many reality TV shows that fling insults in order to obtain ratings, or in the advertisements that imply that overweight people are unworthy, and we are seeing the effects of these messages everywhere we look.

We see it when four middle school boys taunt an overweight senior citizen.

Yes, the boys should be held accountable, as should their parents and their school. But aren't we all accountable, too? Isn't the person who is sending death threats to the boys responsible? Isn't the TV show that rips on overweight people responsible? Aren't the politicians that bully each other responsible? Why do we tolerate this cruel behavior --even condone it -- in adults, but abhor it in children? They learn from watching the world around them.

And what of the other kids on the bus, who surely knew what was going on (and even videotaped it). What can we do to help those kids find the courage to say to the bullying boys, "That is uncool. Leave her alone." Were they also afraid of retaliation? Were they afraid of becoming targets? The entire culture of that bus needs to change. It needs to become a place where the kids view themselves and the adults on the bus with respect, where they hold themselves and each other accountable.

It is possible to do. It starts young, and it requires constant effort to teach kindness. If you have teenagers, watch this video with them. Ask them what they would have been feeling if they were on the bus. Help them brainstorm about ways they could have spoken up. More than half of bullying incidents stop in less than 10 seconds if a single person intervenes.

One of the things this video shows is that bullying affects all different types of people. Kids bully each other, but they can also bully a vulnerable adult. Adults bully each other. We see it in the workplace. We see it happen to senior citizens in long-term care, and to psychiatric patients. There is an enormous amount of bullying of those who are gender-nonconforming. Anyone who is different is at risk of being targeted, regardless of age or social status.

Bullying is not just a problem that affects school kids. The problem affects us all, and the solution requires us all.

What You Must Consider Before Deciding to Relocate

Aside from the things that you need to consider when moving to another state, you also need to consider a lot of things before you decide to relocate. There are a lot of things that you need to do in order to be successful with it, and you always need to make sure that it is the best time for you to relocate. Knowing whether it would be great for you to move or not will help you be sure that you will always make the right decision.

    Sources of Income

One of the main reasons why there are people who are moving is because of the source of income. Whether you are trying to build a business or you job requires them to leave your house, you need to make sure that your move will be beneficial for you in terms of finances. There are a lot of people who are moving to a different house only because they wanted to, and this is something that we can consider as a waste of money, time, and of course, your effort.

    Value of Property

Another thing that you need to consider is the value of the property that you have. If you can sell your property for a price that is higher than the value of your new house, then it would be a good decision for you to move. However, if the price of your old house is lower than your new house, you need to make sure that there are other factors that will tell you that it is time for you to move. Real estate relocation is not all about comfort and convenience; you also need to consider the income that you can generate.

What You Got From Your House

Most experts are saying that you should avoid renting a house, especially if you can buy one and if you are moving from one place to another. The reason is because you will be spending the same amount from it, and it will be hard for you to liquidate your asset. However, if you already have your house for more than 20 years, then it would be better for you to look for a new investment and sell your property for a higher price. This will give you better return for your investment and will ensure that relocating from one house to another will be beneficial for you.

There are a lot of options that you can consider when looking for a real estate relocation company. You need to have something that has the manpower and the equipment that you need, plus you need to have a company that can provide you with good insurance offers. You can check our website now to learn more about why we are the best real estate relocation company for you.

    'Paddington' Poster Holds Adorable Potential

It's a little bit "Harry Potter" (especially with producer David Heyman aboard) with a dash of "Hugo" (train station plus gold lettering), but what really matters in the first poster for "Paddington" (via ComingSoon.net) is the polite little fellow in the middle of the poster. Yes, this is the first one sheet for the upcoming [...]
